Update Sept 9, 2021- As we reflect on how we can support this impactful organization again, we want to note the work they are doing not just around the holidays but throughout the year– such as the many resources available for healthy minds and bodies. October is Health Literacy Month and a common time for candy and sweets overload due to Halloween celebrations. As we move into flu season during another year of the Covid-19 pandemic, children, parents and schools continue to look for support in understanding and explaining how to stay healthy and keep up strong immune systems. We wanted to point out some of the resources featured on Voices to help make this fall and winter as healthy as possible.

Plaza Services, LLC gives back to our local community this holiday season with a donation to Voices for Georgia’s Children, a nonprofit organization that helps to improve the well-being of children through support and advocacy efforts.

Voices for Georgia’s Children (also known as Voices) is a nonprofit child policy and advocacy organization that envisions a Georgia where kids are safe, healthy, educated, employable, and connected to family and community. Their mission is to be a powerful, unifying voice for a public agenda. They are focused on helping guide decision-makers toward policies that ensure Georgia’s 2.5 million children grow up to be healthy, educated, and productive citizens.

“Giving back to our local community is an integral part of our culture at Plaza Services and the holiday season is a natural time to think of others and give to those in need,” says President Gerald Lewis. “Our team believes in having a positive interaction with everyone. This belief extends to making a positive impact in our local area and improving the well-being of our state’s children.”

This year has placed unprecedented demand on so many charitable organizations and we want to help propel initiatives forward for the children in our community. Voices’ work is guided by their belief that every child deserves to have his or her needs met. They advocate for crucial support and policies that help families secure a safe, stable, and nurturing environment for their children.

“We feel a deep responsibility to do our part to help address the crucial needs of those in the local Atlanta community in which we live and work,” continues Mr. Lewis. “We want to help improve the quality of life for children, especially during this challenging time. This year has brought an increase in demand for support of food banks, early childhood education, youth mental health, and many other initiatives that Voices advocates for and on behalf of children whose circumstances have left them most vulnerable. Children make up about only 30 percent of our population, but 100 percent of our future in Georgia.”

Each year, Voices follows approximately 250 separate pieces of child-relevant Georgia legislation, as well as an array of federal issues, bills, and acts. Their work has been particularly meaningful this past year with so many struggling school districts and process changes to handle obstacles presented by the pandemic. We believe that Voices is making a positive impact in our community and we are proud to make our contribution to their essential cause during an extremely high demand time.
